To lots of people, a hamster is just a rodent that you keep in a cage in the corner of your bedroom. Some people however see their hamster as a star. A great way to share your hamsters shinanigans is to create a blog or small website about him or her.
Here is one popular hamster lovers blog:
Billy Rockson from Fairfield, KS started his blog about his hamster “Fluffy Bob” back in early 2011. Billy claims to be the first person to send a hamster through the sewer system of his local town.
Billy created a watertight, hamster size, flushable capsule complete with GPS, Webcam and 5 day oxygen supply.
I wanted to give Fluffy Bob the experience of a lifetime and this is what I wanted to do to show my love for him.
Billy, who is a computer programmer and also has a degree in art goes on to say:
My uncle Joe is a carpenter and he helped me with the project. It took us about 20 tries to get the right size that would be able to go down the toilet. We ended up going with a capsule shaped bendable design made out of PVC pipe. The GPS was linked to my android phone with a special app that I made.
Billy figured that fluffy bob would end up in the municipal sanitation station at the end of his journey.
When the day of “flushdown” came, we made sure that Fluffy Bob had a full belly of food, and we also made sure we had ample food onboard incase he got hungry.
The first flush was a disaster, Fluffy Bob Got stuck, and toilet water backed up all over our bathroom floor. After cleanup, and re-convincing my mother that this was a good idea, we decided to try again.
The second flush was smooth and everything went according to plan. Fluffy bob was on his way to history.
The webcam was very dark but we could still kind of make out what was going on down there. He was traveling at a nice rate of speed. Instead of a couple day journey we realized that he would only be under for a few hours at most.
After about 4 hours and about 1 mile from the water treatment plant.. Billy lost total contact with fluffy bob.
It was like a scene out of Apollo 13 where they totally lost contact with the capsule not knowing what the future would hold.
All of Billy’s friends and family gathered around the wastewater tank at the local water treatment plant and hoped for the best.
I’m not going to lie, it really smelled bad. We still managed to form a huge circle around the tank holding hands and saying a prayers for fluffy bob. Suddenly there he was! He popped up right in the middle of the tank, in the middle of some of the most disgusting sewage I have ever seen.
A huge roar came over all of my friends and family. The feeling was amazing. We scooped him out opened up the capsule and he was fine and in good spirits.
A few weeks after we were invited to meet the mayor of the town and fluffy bob was given the key to our town.
Asked if he’d do it again.
No I think fluffy bob’s adventure days are over, it was also a little to stressful for me and especially my mother who thinks I’m totally insane.
